Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transferred to your hotel in Dar es Salaam. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax and recover from your journey before the adventure ahead. As evening falls, enjoy a briefing on your upcoming Southern Tanzania safari, a journey through some of Africa’s most remote and spectacular wilderness areas.
After breakfast, depart Dar es Salaam and journey north to Saadani National Park, the only national park in East Africa bordering the Indian Ocean. Arrive in time for lunch before embarking on your first game drive through this unique coastal wilderness. As the day draws to a close, enjoy spectacular views where the bush meets the ocean, creating one of Tanzania’s most distinctive safari landscapes.
Start the day with a morning game drive in search of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and predators that inhabit Saadani. Later, enjoy a boat safari along the Wami River, where hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife thrive along the riverbanks. The combination of river and wildlife experiences makes Saadani unlike any other safari destination.
After breakfast, continue your journey inland towards Mikumi National Park, travelling through scenic landscapes and local communities of eastern Tanzania. Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy a game drive across the wildlife-rich Mkata Floodplain, often referred to as the "Little Serengeti" of Southern Tanzania due to its vast open plains and abundant wildlife.
Spend a full day exploring Mikumi National Park, one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife destinations. The park is home to elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and a remarkable variety of bird species. A picnic lunch inside the park allows for maximum game-viewing time while exploring different habitats throughout the day.
After breakfast, travel to Udzungwa Mountains a guided hike through one of East Africa’s most important rainforest ecosystems. The highlight of the day is the spectacular Sanje Waterfalls, offering breathtaking views across the Kilombero Valley. Along the trail, keep an eye out for endemic birds, primates, and unique plant species found only in this biodiversity hotspot.
Depart Udzungwa and travel west through Iringa towards Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest national park and one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas. Arrive in the afternoon for an introductory game drive before continuing to your lodge. With three nights in Ruaha, you will have ample time to explore this remarkable and remote ecosystem.
Today is dedicated to exploring Ruaha’s diverse landscapes, from baobab-studded plains and rocky escarpments to the wildlife-rich Great Ruaha River. The park is renowned for its large lion population, impressive elephant herds, and exceptional predator sightings, offering an authentic safari experience far from the crowds.
Enjoy another full day of wildlife exploration in Ruaha National Park. Morning and afternoon game drives provide opportunities to observe animal behaviour, track predators, and discover areas not visited on the previous day. For those seeking a deeper wilderness experience, a guided walking safari may be available depending on seasonal conditions.
After breakfast, begin the scenic drive eastward towards Morogoro. The journey offers changing landscapes and impressive views of Tanzania’s highlands and countryside. Upon arrival, settle into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening beneath the beautiful Uluguru Mountains before continuing to Nyerere National Park the following day.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River, where you can observe hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species from the water while taking in a spectacular sunset over the river.
Begin the day with a guided walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger, offering a unique opportunity to experience the African bush on foot and learn about tracks, plants, and animal behaviour. Later, continue with a game drive through Nyerere’s diverse habitats in search of elephants, lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, and other iconic African wildlife.
Spend the day exploring the lakes, floodplains, woodlands, and open savannahs of Nyerere National Park. With a picnic lunch in the bush, enjoy uninterrupted game viewing across one of Tanzania’s most diverse safari destinations. The day is designed to maximise wildlife encounters while providing excellent opportunities for photography and observation.
After breakfast, bid farewell to the wilderness and begin your onward journey to Dar es Salaam, with the option to continue to Zanzibar for a beach extension.
