Details
Pick-up from your hotel in Stone Town and take a short drive to a local Spice Farm in the countryside. On the way, your guide explains how spices shaped Zanzibar’s trade history.
Join a local farmer for a walk through the plantation. Stop at different spice trees and plants. See clove trees and how cloves are harvested and dried. Smell and taste fresh cinnamon bark. View vanilla vines, nutmeg, black pepper, turmeric, and cardamom. Taste tropical fruits like jackfruit, oranges, coconuts, and seasonal fruits straight from the tree. Your guide will explain traditional uses for each spice in cooking, medicine, and cosmetics, and learn about the role spices played in Zanzibar’s history and trade.
Finish with a tasting of spiced tea and fresh fruit, with an opportunity to buy organic spices, oils, and handmade products directly from the farm.
After the farm visit, transfer back to your hotel in Stone Town in the late morning / early afternoon
