Your Southern Tanzania adventure begins in Dar es Salaam with a scenic drive to Mikumi National Park. Arrive in time for lunch before setting out on your first game drive across the park’s wildlife-rich plains. Often referred to as the “Little Serengeti” of Southern Tanzania, Mikumi is home to elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and a variety of antelope species. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
An early morning game drive offers excellent opportunities to observe wildlife during the cooler hours of the day, when animals are most active. Explore different sections of the park before continuing to the Udzungwa Mountains. Arrive in the afternoon and settle into your lodge surrounded by one of East Africa’s most important rainforest ecosystems.
Today is dedicated to exploring Udzungwa Mountains National Park on foot. Accompanied by a guide, follow forest trails through lush rainforest in search of endemic birds, primates, and unique plant species. The highlight of the day is the spectacular Sanje Waterfalls, where sweeping views across the Kilombero Valley reward the climb before returning to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Leave the Udzungwa Mountains behind and travel west towards Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest national park and one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas. Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy an en-route game drive as you make your way to the lodge, offering your first glimpse into Ruaha’s remarkable landscapes.
A full day in Ruaha allows time to explore its diverse ecosystems, from baobab-studded plains and rocky escarpments to the wildlife-rich Great Ruaha River. The park is renowned for its large elephant populations and exceptional predator sightings, making it one of Tanzania’s most rewarding safari destinations.
Another day in Ruaha offers the opportunity to venture deeper into its remote wilderness and discover areas not visited on the previous day. With relatively few visitors, wildlife encounters here feel authentic and unhurried. As the day draws to a close, return to camp and enjoy your final evening in the heart of the African bush.
Begin the day with a final game drive in Ruaha National Park before transferring to the airstrip for your scheduled flight. Whether continuing to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, your journey concludes with lasting memories of Southern Tanzania’s extraordinary landscapes and wildlife. For those continuing to Zanzibar, the adventure seamlessly transitions from safari to the white-sand beaches of the Indian Ocean.
